Official Reception organised by the Embassy of Armenia in New Delhi to mark the 34th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia

An official reception and concert evening marking the 34th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia was organised in New Delhi by the Embassy of Armenia. The event was attended by the Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India, as the Chief Guest.

In his remarks, H.E. Vahagn Afyan, the Ambassador of Armenia, emphasized the active political dialogue of recent years and the expanding cooperation in mutually beneficial fields, built upon the centuries-old cultural ties between Armenia and India. The Ambassador also noted that for Armenia, friendly India is a reliable partner with whom there is a desire to establish relations on an even higher level. He expressed confidence that through ongoing contacts and the application of effective mechanisms, bilateral cooperation will acquire a stronger and more forward-looking character.

Referring to the Washington agreements of August, the Ambassador underlined the importance of peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the basis of the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity. It was mentioned that the implementation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project, stemming from the Armenian Government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, will create new logistical opportunities not only for Armenia’s immediate neighbours, but also for the countries of the South Asian region, especially India.

Sibi George, India’s newly appointed Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, in his turn, spoke about the deep historical and friendly ties between the two countries mentioning the steps being taken to strengthen continuous partnership. These issues were also discussed during his private conversation with the Armenian Ambassador.

At the reception, organised by the Embassy of Armenia for the second consecutive year, the dance ensembles “Hay Astgher” (Armenian Stars) and “Nane,” invited to New Delhi by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), performed a collaborative program of national dances under the title “Armenia in Motion,” which received warm and enthusiastic responses from many attendees.

The reception was attended by Ambassadors and Diplomats from several dozen countries, as well as representatives of Indian ministerial, parliamentary, state and private institutions, expert circles, members of the small Armenian community, and the Armenian para-athletics team currently in New Delhi.
